Frequently Asked Questions About Our Professional Pest Control Services
How do hotels deal with bed bugs without closing rooms for weeks?
The trick is catching them early. A guest complaint should mean an inspection that day, of that room and the rooms on each side, above and below. If we find bed bugs, the room comes out of service while we treat it. How long it stays out depends on the treatment, and we'll give you a straight answer once we've seen it. Hotels on regular service often add a bed bug monitoring program, so housekeeping and our technicians find problems before guests do. Hotel plans run $350 to $700 a month.
What do health inspectors look for when it comes to pests?
In Barrie, restaurants and food shops are inspected by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Inspectors look for droppings, live or dead insects, flies around food, gaps under doors and around pipes, and food stored where pests can get at it. They'll also ask about your pest control: who does it, how often, and whether you keep records. A folder of recent service reports makes that part of the visit easy.
How much does pest control cost for an apartment building?
Most apartment buildings fall between $100 and $200 a month. Some buildings are priced per building and some per unit, depending on the size and how many units need regular service. The plan usually covers common areas, garbage rooms and laundry rooms, plus treatment in any unit that reports a problem. You get written reports for your records, which helps if a tenant complaint ever goes further.
Why are there so many flies on my windows in the fall?
Those are usually cluster flies. They're a bit bigger and slower than a house fly, and in late summer they look for a warm place to spend the winter, often in attics and wall spaces on the sunny side of the house. On warm days they wake up and crawl out onto the windows. They don't breed indoors, so the real fix is treating the outside of the house in late summer and sealing gaps around windows, soffits and vents.
Can I bring bed bugs home from a cottage rental or hotel?
Yes, and it happens a lot in summer. Bed bugs hide in luggage seams and clothing, not just mattresses. When you get home, unpack outside the bedroom, put your clothes straight into the dryer on high heat for at least 30 minutes, and check your suitcase seams before you put it away. If you wake up with small itchy bites in a line or find tiny dark spots on your sheets, call for an inspection before it spreads.
Why are there so many spiders on buildings near the water?
Lakes produce huge numbers of small flying insects in late spring and summer, like midges, and at night they swarm to the lights on buildings. Spiders follow the food, so waterfront hotels, restaurants and condos end up with webs on every railing, window and light fixture. Changing to lights that attract fewer insects helps a lot. We can treat the outside of the building and clear the webs as part of restaurant and hotel service.
How do pharaoh ants get into hotels?
Pharaoh ants are tiny, yellowish ants that love warm buildings with plumbing in every room, which makes hotels ideal. They nest in wall voids and travel along pipes and wiring between rooms. Spraying them makes the colony split and spread, so it has to be done with slow-acting baits placed in the affected rooms and the rooms around them. Our hotel pest control programs handle this quietly, room by room.
How do hotels keep mice out during the slow winter months?
In the off-season, some wings or floors sit empty for weeks, and that's when mice move in. Nobody's there to notice droppings or chewed linen. Keep traps in the back-of-house areas, laundry and storage rooms all year, check empty rooms regularly, and don't leave food in closed areas. Before you reopen a wing, have it inspected. Our commercial rodent control covers all of that.
Why do cottages get carpenter ants?
Cottages are often older, sit near the woods and the water, and have wood that gets wet: decks, docks, window frames, log walls and roof edges. Carpenter ants nest in that damp wood, and when a cottage sits closed all winter, nobody notices until spring. Look for large black ants inside, especially in April and May, and small piles of sawdust-like material under wood. Ant control costs $199 to $299.
Are European hornets dangerous?
European hornets are big, about 2.5 to 3.5 centimetres, brown and yellow, and they've been settled in southern Ontario for a long time. They look scary, but away from the nest they're usually less aggressive than regular yellowjackets. Near the nest, they'll sting, and the sting hurts. They're unusual because they fly at night and bang into lit windows. They often nest in hollow trees, walls and sheds. If you find a nest, leave it alone and call us.

Protect Your Business with a Licensed Commercial Pest Control Company in Barrie

Why us
Barrie Pest Control for Hotels, Restaurants and Homes
Barrie's waterfront, its hospital and college, and the long run of hotels and restaurants along the 400 bring a lot of people through the city every day. More people means more chances for pests to hitch a ride in, and for a business, one sighting by a customer can do real damage. That's why our Barrie team spends so much of its time on commercial work: hotels and motels, restaurants, shops, offices, and apartment buildings run by property managers.

For businesses, we set a visit schedule, map every trap and station, and leave a written report each time. We can work early, late or overnight so we're never in the way. Between visits, expect a response within 24 to 48 hours on most calls, or right away for an emergency.

Tourist season adds pressure in Barrie. Summer brings more guests to hotels and more customers to restaurants, and with them more bed bugs travelling in luggage and more wasps around patios. Winter is quieter for guests but busier for mice, which move into buildings along the waterfront and the highway as soon as the cold sets in. A good program for a Barrie business changes with the seasons instead of doing the same thing every visit.

For homes, the busy seasons are fall for mice and late summer for wasps and cluster flies. Spring brings carpenter ants and carpenter bees. We also treat rats, house ants, pharaoh ants, hornets, cockroaches, bed bugs, spiders, centipedes, silverfish, fruit flies, weevils and pantry beetles.

We've been in business since 2017. Our technicians are licensed and insured, and if you'd rather not have a pest control truck in your lot, we'll come in an unmarked vehicle. The number is 647-849-4441.
