The space beneath a raised floor is one of the most attractive hiding spots in the building — dark, warm from equipment below, and rarely disturbed by foot traffic. If rodents get into this space, they can nest undetected near power distribution units and cooling lines, and standard visual inspection often won't catch them until damage has already occurred. This is one of the reasons data centre pest programs rely so heavily on exclusion rather than reactive treatment. Using rodenticide inside a data hall creates its own risk: a rodent that dies inside an inaccessible plenum space or wall void decomposes there, and that decomposition can introduce contaminants into the facility's airflow.
