How much does commercial pest control cost in Toronto?
It depends on the type of business. As a rough guide, restaurants usually pay $150 to $200 a month, offices $200 to $225, retail stores $175 to $200, warehouses $175 to $200 and hotels $350 to $700. Bigger or more complex sites, like food plants and pharmaceutical facilities, cost more. Every quote starts with a free on-site assessment, and the final price is based on your building's size, pest history and conditions.
Do you offer one-time commercial treatments or only contracts?
Both. If you have one specific problem, like a wasp nest over a patio or mice in a stockroom, we can do a one-time treatment with a follow-up visit. For restaurants, food businesses, hotels and buildings with tenants, a regular service plan usually makes more sense, because it catches problems early and gives you the records inspectors and auditors want to see.
What are the most common pests in Toronto businesses?
Mice and rats top the list, especially in older buildings and anywhere near food or garbage. German cockroaches are the big one for restaurants and apartment buildings. Fruit flies are a constant fight in bars and cafés, bed bugs turn up in hotels and rentals, and stored-product insects like weevils and beetles show up wherever dry food is kept. In summer, wasps join the list for anyone with a patio.
How many treatments does it take to get rid of bed bugs?
Most homes need two treatments about two weeks apart. The first kills the bugs that are out, and the second gets the ones that hatch from eggs after the first visit. Heavier infestations, or ones that have spread through several rooms, can need a third. How well the home is prepared makes a big difference, so follow the prep sheet closely.
Do I need to leave my home during pest control?
For most treatments, no, or only for a short time. Bait, traps and gel treatments don't need you to leave at all. If we spray a room, we'll ask you and your pets to stay out until it's dry. For bed bug and cockroach treatments covering a whole unit, plan to be out for a few hours. Your technician will give you exact times for your treatment.
Can rats come up through floor drains in a commercial building?
In older buildings, yes. Norway rats live in the sewer system, and broken drain lines, missing drain covers and old connections give them a way into basements, kitchens and storage rooms. Keep every floor drain covered with a proper grate, keep traps filled with water and have broken lines repaired. A backwater valve can also help. If you find droppings near a drain, call us. How do bars get rid of fruit flies?
Bars are full of fruit fly food: sticky bottles and pour spouts, garnish trays, beer lines, drains under the bar and the slime that builds up under rubber bar mats. Pull and wash the bar mats every night, scrub the drains under the bar, cap or cover bottles and pour spouts after closing, and keep garnishes refrigerated. Traps help with the adults. We find the breeding spots as part of our business pest control.
What are cigarette beetles, and why are they in our store?
Cigarette beetles are tiny reddish-brown beetles that feed on tobacco, spices, dried herbs, tea, dried fruit, flour and pet food. Spice shops, tea shops, bulk food stores and convenience stores get them most. They usually arrive in an infested shipment and spread to nearby stock. Pull infested products, check what's around them, clean the shelves and keep stock moving. Pheromone traps help catch them early. Our retail store service includes this kind of monitoring.
Why do pharaoh ants keep coming back in my apartment?
Because the colony is bigger than your apartment. Pharaoh ants nest in the walls and travel between units, and when they're sprayed, the colony splits into several new ones and spreads further. That's why store-bought sprays seem to work for a few days and then the ants are back. The fix is slow-acting bait placed in your unit and the ones around it. Let your landlord know so the building can be treated properly.
Can you get bed bugs from the TTC or a movie theatre?
It's possible, but it isn't common. Bed bugs are hitchhikers, and they can crawl onto a bag or coat from a seat, but most infestations come from luggage, used furniture or a neighbouring unit. If you're worried, keep bags off upholstered seats, check your coat seams when you get home and put clothes in a hot dryer for 30 minutes. If you start getting bites at home, call for an inspection.
